When duct cleaning helps

Duct cleaning can be useful, especially in these situations:

  • Dust or debris from the vents

If dust puffs out when the system starts, or you can see buildup inside the vents, it’s a good time for an inspection.

  • After a renovation

Drywall dust and sawdust can settle in the ducts, especially if the heat or air conditioning ran during the work.

  • Moving into a home

You don’t know how the last owners kept the system. An inspection tells you where things stand.

  • Pets in the home

Pet hair and dander collect on the filter and in the return ducts. We’ll check how much has built up.

  • Signs of pests

Insects or rodents in the ducts are a clear reason to clean.

  • Visible mold inside the ducts

Mold comes back unless the moisture problem behind it is fixed. If we see signs of it, we’ll show you what we find.

What’s included

  • An inspection of your ducts and system first, and we show you what we find
  • Protection for your floors and the areas we work in
  • Cleaning of the supply ducts, which carry air to your rooms, and the return ducts, which bring it back to the system
  • Removing and cleaning the vent covers (registers and grilles)
  • Powerful vacuum and brushing equipment that captures dust and debris instead of blowing it into your home
  • A check of your furnace filter, and we tell you if it needs replacing

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should air ducts be cleaned?

There’s no set schedule. The EPA recommends cleaning only when it’s needed, such as when there’s visible mold, signs of pests, or heavy dust and debris coming from the vents. We’ll inspect yours and tell you honestly whether it needs cleaning.

How long does duct cleaning take?

It depends on the size of your home and your system. We’ll tell you how long to plan for when you book.

How much does duct cleaning cost?

It depends on your home and your system. We inspect first and give you a price before we start any work.

Is duct cleaning messy?

It shouldn’t be. We protect your floors and the areas we work in, and our vacuum equipment captures the dust and debris instead of blowing it into your home.

Do I need to be home?

Yes, please plan for an adult to be home. We’ll show you what we find and go over the price before we start.

Will duct cleaning help with allergies or asthma?

We can’t promise that. The EPA says duct cleaning has never been shown to prevent health problems. Dust, pet dander and mold are common asthma triggers, according to the CDC. If allergies or asthma are a concern, talk with your doctor.

Is my furnace filter enough?

A good filter, changed on schedule, does a lot. The EPA suggests a MERV 13 filter, or the highest rating your system can take. No filter removes everything, and a filter can’t clear out dust, debris or pests already in the ducts. That’s when an inspection makes sense.
